Uncle Kirei's Crying Orphan Basement

Kotomine Kirei is attracted to misery, tragedy, and pain. He takes joy from the suffering of others, making him the living embodiment of schadenfreude.

So, what keys into his interest the most, you might ask? Here's a not entirely thorough list:

- Death. People who are dying, particularly in a painful or terminal fashion. People for whom living longer is more of a punishment than dying in the first place.

- Disaster. People who have disaster spring up around them, whether through their own actions or circumstances. If there's a large blast radius around your character that can be seen from space, chances are Kirei's going to pay attention.

- Despair. Not just any sort of tragedy, but despair event horizon crossings. People who teeter on the edge of giving up completely.

- Void. This is the big one. Kirei is most fascinated by people he believes, correctly or incorrectly, to be void souls like him. For example, he initially gets a hatecrush attraction to Kiritsugu because he believes the latter to be incapable of happiness. It does not have to be as dark as this. Anyone who seems only happy through others, or someone who seems to have nothing like he does, they're all fair game.
