Nov. 11th, 2022 08:26 pmKotomine Kirei is attracted to misery, tragedy, and pain. He takes joy from the suffering of others, making him the living embodiment of schadenfreude.
So, what keys into his interest the most, you might ask? Here's a not entirely thorough list:
- Death. People who are dying, particularly in a painful or terminal fashion. People for whom living longer is more of a punishment than dying in the first place.
- Disaster. People who have disaster spring up around them, whether through their own actions or circumstances. If there's a large blast radius around your character that can be seen from space, chances are Kirei's going to pay attention.
- Despair. Not just any sort of tragedy, but despair event horizon crossings. People who teeter on the edge of giving up completely.
- Void. This is the big one. Kirei is most fascinated by people he believes, correctly or incorrectly, to be void souls like him. For example, he initially gets ahatecrush attraction to Kiritsugu because he believes the latter to be incapable of happiness. It does not have to be as dark as this. Anyone who seems only happy through others, or someone who seems to have nothing like he does, they're all fair game.

[The worst part about fighting snow filth was cleaning up after it.
He lacked some of the magical skills and abilities put on display during the melee. Black Keys, it turns out, aren't very much good against piles of snow. Not in any sort of specialized way, at least. Still, he's alive, at the moment, and it seems the snow has finally taken the hint and stayed down this time.
Right now, he's shoveling the pathway around the church. The snow might vanish when the virus ends. Or perhaps it will simply melt in the heat. Already he notices the lack of people noticing. A localized snow plague, nothing more and nothing less.
Still, it is something to do, so it's something that will get done. He shovels the walk, all the same. Watches the last few flurries shake out of the trees.]

[Kirei expected visitors. Eventually. The missing rosary and the missing book all added up. Plus there was his cell phone to take into account. Someone would start looking. And eventually come knocking.
Well, barging in this case. Right past the smudges on the floor where there used to be an almost dead body. The Doctor (it felt so wrong to call him anything else) had given him a look about it. Kirei'd said nobody died. At least honesty might count.
About a half hour has past since then. The floor boards torn up, a false wall had been found, and the chairs had been shoved aside this way and that. It looked as if a meticulously organized bomb had gone off, and there Kirei was standing off to the center watching the destruction.
Not the worst seat in the house, he had to admit.]
I hope I'm still getting my deposit.

But I'll ride home laughing [RL]
Nov. 23rd, 2012 06:28 pm[It's a Friday night. Closer to Saturday morning. Kirei tends to wake up early, when he sleeps at all. Fridays are no exception. He hopped out of the bar earlier. Gilgamesh, of course, still had work to do. Well. A certain definition of work. It tended to involve climbing rooftops with various bottles in hand.
But it's the type of late that's starting to seem early, so Kirei tries to catch some sleep by the tail. It's illusive today. Just when he thinks he's got his finger on it, it slips away. Uneasy. That's the word for the feeling. A roll in the gut that won't stop churning. He shuffles his blankets and pillows in the hopes of pinning sleep down. He avoids the still slightly pained shoulder. There are some problems advil can't solve.
This is one of many.]
